India’s batting display was exceptional, amassing a total of 410 runs, with the top five batters all scoring 50 or more runs. Notably, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, both notched up centuries. In a match against the Netherlands, a team considered as underdog, and with India’s position secured at the top of the points table, the opportunity was given to players like Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shubman Gill to showcase their bowling skills. Rohit Sharma himself took on the role of an off-spin bowler.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Rohit provided insights into India’s campaign, expressing satisfaction with his team’s adaptability to challenges.
“As we embarked on this tournament, our approach was to take it one game at a time. We deliberately avoided looking too far ahead, recognizing the length of the tournament. The key was to focus on each game individually, adapting to different venues, and that’s precisely what we did. I’m genuinely pleased with our performance in these nine games. From game one to today, our approach has been very clinical. It’s encouraging to see different individuals stepping up at various points – a positive sign for the team,” remarked Rohit.
When questioned about the bowling experiments, Rohit, with a smile, revealed that India had nine bowling options on that particular day.
“We were well aware of the conditions, but facing different opponents presents a unique challenge. We adapted admirably, starting with four consecutive games where we batted first, and our seamers and spinners delivered accordingly. Results do matter to maintain a lively dressing room environment. Despite the high expectations, our focus was on the job at hand. We approached the game with a spirit of fun, and that was reflected in our performances. Today, we had nine bowling options, and it was an opportunity to try something different. Seamers bowled wide yorkers even when not necessary, but the intent was to explore new strategies,” he elaborated.
Looking ahead, India is set to face New Zealand in the semi-finals of the World Cup.
