Gandhinagar, Tuesday: While addressing the athletes participating in the 36th National Games being held in Gujarat from September 29, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel said national games are like the stepping stone towards international games, thus every athlete of Gujarat participating in 36th National Games being organized in Gujarat this time, exuberates passion and zeal.
Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel explained that the confluence of the players’ preparation and the government’s responsibility can result in achievement of expected results in the field of sports. The state government is stands by every athlete of Gujarat who is interested in sports. The state government ensures every athlete of Gujarat gets quality facilities. He further said that Gujarat has already been blessed with talented sports persons but this talent got a platform with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s commencement of tradition of Khel Mahakumbh. Sportspersons of Gujarat have now erased our impression as ‘Dal-Bhat’ eaters, he added.
With the pre-preparations for the successful organization of the 36th National Games, the blueprint for future organization of Olympic Games in Gujarat is being prepared, he added. In the National Games, the players of Gujarat are going to perform well and get further prepared for the international level games.
Chief Minister motivated Gujarat’s sportspersons who are going to participate in the 36th National Games by giving the sport mantra of ‘Go for Gold’ and gave them best wishes.
Shri Pullela Gopichand, the coach of the Indian National Badminton Team, encouraged the players and said that after a gap of 7 years, Gujarat is proud to host the 36th National Games and expressed the feeling that these Games will be a memorable memory for the players across the country. He further said that approximately 11,000 athletes are participating in the Olympics while 20,000 athletes are participating in the National Games.
He said that in 8 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, through Khelo India, Fit India and various encouraging schemes, there has been unprecedented development in the field of sports in the country. Expressing a clear view that the ‘Go for Gold’ program will provide the necessary motivation to the players, he said that the efforts to win are easily visible but the motivation is invisible. Motivation is the foundation of success in life, he added.
Shri Pullela Gopichand taught the players to focus on diet, fitness and positive attitude in the three days before the final games. He advised the sportspersons to keep moving towards victory even in defeat.
Shooter Smt. Anjali Bhagwat said that today I am very happy and my happiness has increased twofold because my career started from Ahmedabad itself. Came to Ahmedabad as an NCC cadet and played the first match of my career in Ahmedabad and won a silver medal and decided to pursue a career in the field of sports.
Smt. Anjali Bhagwat further said that the National Games are being held after seven years, many thanks to Gujarat for hosting the much awaited sports event. National Games are very important for any athlete. National Games are like mini Olympics, with players representing states. The pressure of playing for the state builds a player and enables him/her to play at the international level, she added.
She urged the young players to focus on planning, goal setting, sports science, confidence, passion to win, analysis etc. and gave valuable advice. Further, she wished the Gujarati youth to perform well on the home ground.
Sports Principal Secretary Shri Ashwini kumar said that thoughtful and organized planning is being done to create an atmosphere of excitement across the state for the national games. Stating that the ‘Go for Gold’ event has been organized to increase the enthusiasm of the sportspersons, he requested all the sportspersons to be determined for Gujarat to be among the top five in the 36th National Games.
Along with the athletes of Gujarat, representatives of Sports Authority of Gujarat and Gujarat State Olympic Association participated in this ‘Go for Gold’ program.
